Deposit system

From 01.02.2022, a deposit system has been introduced in Latvia for certain types of beverage containers, which are plastic bottles, tin cans, glass bottles, with the aim of improving waste management processes in Latvia and encouraging people to be responsible, not to pollute the environment with waste, but to recycle it as much as possible.
When purchasing drinks in a container that is marked, the buyer, in addition to the price of the drink, also pays a deposit fee, which can be recovered later by handing over the empty container to specialized reception points.

All packages participating in the deposit system have a special deposit mark:

The deposit container you transfer must be:
    • empty, completely released , without content
    • without damage, must not be deformed, crushed, torn
    • marked with the mark of the deposit system
    • with a readable barcode

The deposit machine does not accept the following containers:
    • container without deposit mark
    • deformed, damaged container
    • if the container label is damaged (torn in places, scratched)

We will be responsible and put containers that cannot be transferred to the deposit system into waste sorting containers!

The empty deposit package can be handed over to:
    • in vending machines located near supermarkets , grocery stores and other places of sale,
    • at gas stations,

If you did not find the taromat near the store or in the store itself , ask the store staff if it is possible to give the package to the seller.
